If the Yankees’ management deals Melky Cabrera this off-season, they have informed the agent of free agent center fielder Aaron Rowand that they would indeed be interested, as per The Newark Star Ledger.
If Melky is sent packing in a deal that would bring back Johan Santana, and the Yankees pushed for a defensive upgrade in center in Rowand, we are looking at a payroll that will be off the charts for the Bombers. They would need to extend Johan (say 6 years $130 million) and then overpay for Rowand.
The easiest job in sports must be the budget analysts and accountants for the New York Yankees, as the idea of “fiscal responsability” does not apply.

Yeah, and then they will claim how brilliant they are for building this team…..please. This team ruins baseball year after year.
Queue the “I’ve always wanted to play in pinstripes” line for Rowand.
