According to Rotoworld.com, Alex Rodriguez, presumably with the help of his buddies from Goldman Sachs (along with Scott Boras), has gotten a sweetheart marketing package from the New York Yankess, that could raise his total contract with the team to $305 MILLION over 10 years.
As noted in the piece, “A-Rod will receive $6 million each for tying the [...]

As noted by Fox 26 in Houston, Texas, the Astros have agreed to a 1-year contract with free agent relief grandfather Doug Brocail. Brocail, who is 40, pitched to a 5-1 record last season with the San Diego Padres, and sported a 3.05 ERA. Contract terms were not disclosed.
With last season’s trade of Dan Wheeler [...]

David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution chimes in today with some pretty interesting Braves rumors:
Atlanta GM Frank Wren believes the Braves have three needs they need to fill: A left-handed reliever (who doesn’t need one?), a utility man who can also act as Yunel Escobar’s primary backup at shortstop (Cesar Izturis or Juan Uribe [...]

John Heyman, of Sports Illustrated, has some interesting notes in today’s article. Let’s summarize:
According to Heyman, one unnamed American League executive predicted the Angels would now try to move Gary Matthews, Jr. “if they can.” This makes sense given the outrageous deal they recently gave Torii Hunter. Replace one fleece with another, right?
Rangers pitcher Vicente [...]

According to ESPN Radio 1000, the Cubs have signed Kerry Wood to a one-year contract worth $4 million, Rotoworld has reported.
If true, initial sentiment is that Wood got fleeced. I think if he waited, he might have been able to get a multi-year deal out there somewhere. Perhaps the Cubs assured him the closer’s role? Interesting move…

Looks like Johnny Estrada’s stay in Flushing could be very short. Ken Rosenthal has the scoop.
Molina has long been a target of Minaya and the newly-acquired Estrada could be one of the chips to go for Molina, who is owed $6 million the next 2 seasons.
Molina is a better defensive catcher and is a similar offensive player [...]

No, not that Cordero, but the Nationals Chad Cordero. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Brewers might look to the trade market to fill their closer’s role, and they may check-in on the availability of the Washington’s Cordero. He was available at the trade deadline last season as well, but a deal was never consummated. [...]

According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, if Chris Duffy is not traded this winter, look for him to open the season at AAA.
This begs the obvious question: Who would want Chris Duffy? Well, the speedy centerfielder would probably fall towards the end of the list of available center fielders behind the likes of Andruw Jones, [...]
